In Germanic and Nordic mythology, the earth beneath one's feet is perceived not just as mere ground, but as a higher being, a feminine force and goddess. She is the source of all life and knowledge - fertile, wise and powerful. She knows everything about the past, present and future. Erda, or Edda, is not just the earth, but an expression of all of nature.
We want to convey and communicate this expression and beauty of nature to the outside world through our idea and mindful lifestyle with our ceramic tableware. Ceramics made from high-quality clay minerals and quartz straight from Edda's womb.
In our habitat, the Alpine cultural landscape, nature is still very present and an important habitat for a variety of animal and plant species. Nevertheless, the landscape is shaped by human use of the Alps. However, people still have respect and awe for the power of nature and usually act in symbiosis with it. That is why many customs from Germanic mythology are still lived and maintained.
You can believe what you want, but a little more respect and love for our Edda would solve many problems today.
Natural product stoneware
We use stoneware for our ceramic collections. Stoneware is a natural material. It is mostly made of clay, with a mixture of quartz and minerals. Depending on the shape, each product is formed using a casting or pressing process at high temperatures between 1000 and 1300 degrees Celsius. The firing process makes our plates, bowls and cups robust and impermeable to water.
The production "step by step"
To make a cup, you first need the material. To do this, the different components are mixed together and processed into a homogeneous mass.
The clay mixture is then poured into molds. These molds are an "impression" of a hand-made original cup. This ensures that each cup has roughly the same shape.
As soon as the stoneware mixture has dried, the molds are removed and the remaining clay is sanded off by hand. This is where the character of a cup is formed.
Let it burn, baby!
The cup is then glazed. There are different procedures here. The products can be dipped or sprayed. Our factory works with a special glazing technique that creates individual speckles and irregularities through a specific reaction between two materials. The incomparable textures of matt and shiny are also determined in this process.
During the subsequent firing process, the glaze fuses with the ceramic and gives it a durable surface.
fire
Finally, the parts are dried and fired.
We take a closer look!
